princess and the pauper

so here's an embarrasing story for the afternoon.
so basically we went to the local shopping centre this afternoon to go to the bank to organise bank accounts.
we transfered some money into the account and were told it would take 30min for it to come thru.
so we go downstairs and ari wanted to buy a toy kitchen for MM, as we go to pay the card wont work so we figure that it hasnt been 1/2 hr yet.
i cant use my westpac card here bc they've blocked it due to suspicious activities after ive used it a few times already here...
so we were gng to go to the supermarket meanwhile.
but MM had poo'd so I went up to the car to change his nappy and ari went back to the bank to confirm.
ari comes back to tell me that no it wont be 30 min but 24 hours!!
meanwhile we discover that MM had shoflifted a ball from the toystore so ari went to return it and get them to hold our purchases.
on his way back he went to pay for the parking only to discover that all he had in his wallet was 2Rand (abt 30cents) and parking was 5!!
so we were stranded in the carpark until Levi could come and rescue us to bring us the rest of the money!!!
so here we are with not even $1 accesible to our name!!!!
oh the joys of moving countries!

Benefits of "co-sleeping"

Benefits of "co-sleeping": "Search the web"

I know this is not relevant to most of you, but let's just say that mum got it right!!! But for some reason, it talks about the first year - not the first decade of a child's life!!!

mango mango

Just in case anyone cares, Mangoes and avocado's cost 4 Rand here! That's like 60cents!!! And the mangoes are whoppers
Just saying!
I guess there have to be some perks for being so far away from you all!!
Missing you stacks!

Dear Mum,
i would like to publicly apologise for any accusations i had against you with regards to Ari's missing shirt!!
it has been sitting in Levi's cupboard for 8 months!!!!
Actually not sitting, he's been wearing it!
That's what happens when you let a maid do your washing for you!

MAZEL TOV!

Hello all!
As an unmarried member of the family, I often wonder when will I have something to post that I deem "blog-worthy". I have no children to laugh at and I'm not on some African adventure that the family are sitting at the edges of their seats waiting to hear every detail about from what time my child woke up to the newest word he's started to say, to how many times that day he made a poo and everything in between. But then, today a miracle happened and I thought it was appropriate to share it on the blog! I was enjoying my morning off when Chum does wake up and I was sleeping soundly in my bed when Chum comes in all huffy and puffy and proudly declares, "I FOUND YOUR KEYS!!!!!!" Yes, dear family, it is true! CHUM FOUND MY KEYS!!!! I assume you all know about my key debacle but now there is no debacle to hear about! For those who are wondering where in heaven's name they were, they were hiding in the glovebox of Chum's car! We will be having a lechaim in honour of this very exciting reunion... details to follow! =)

And now a word from our sponsors...

Hi!!! Ok so BH have now worked out how to post to the blog, so here goes!
So we have arrived in SA :( Very weird to be here, doesnt feel like we've moved, but doesnt feel like holidays either.
Went to see our apartment today which is quite decent. Apparently 90% is Jewish and over 50% shomer shabbos, and just to make us feel right at home apparently the body corporate is very nit-picky :) and yes Mummy there is a guard outside the complex 24/7 if that makes you feel better.
My MIL has stocked us up on the basics which should make moving in happen much faster and easier. (seriously she is the biggest shopper i have ever seen in my life, you should see the amount of clothes she's bought for MM, i dont think i'll ever be allowed to buy a piece of clothing for him to wear...)
anyhows iyh tomoro we are going to have a look at furniture mainly focusing on beds (speaking of which mum, sorele and leah, guess who i got an email from about the beds today asking if i'd sold them yet, i feel like writing back, "yes, to someone who offered me a menchlich price...")
they've left a table and a few chairs in the apartment for us, so once we have beds we could technically move in and then let everything else happen as we find them. kindve dont want to unpack here just to repack and unpack again. i've done enough packing in the last few weeks to last me until we pack up to move back.....
BH MM is doing alright he loved the photobook, and we have to find a way of making it user friendly. He keeps asking for all of you, especially Bobby, mimi and nenel (but that could really be nunu's so ;-)
He has adjusted really well to Levi and Tzipporah and loves playing with them, and also loves playing with our to be maid "Tembi" who was very good with him.
unfortunatley i think he has an upset stomach, firstly he refused ice cream so that should have rung a bell and he threw up twice tonight, not huge amounts but the contents of his stomach, mostly me, so i love feeling wasted...
MM and i had a big shluf from like 11 - 2 today, i didnt get much sleep on the plane so i was quite wiped but i'm hoping that we dont get jetlagged, i think that with breaking up the trip and stopping off in singapore it should help with that bc we do 2 small time adjustments separately so yeah hoping for good night of sleep.
Got lots to write about Singapore but i'm hoping to do that and add some pictures as well at the same time so either later tonight or iyh tomoro morning so you'll have what to check after shabbos!
Missing you all terribly!!!!
Lots of Love!!!!!!

DL's thoughts on MM leaving

So, I asked DL if she misses MM, to which she replied, "Once upon a time Nakemenu went on a airplane and then he is going to come back". I think that what she means is that
I'm not sure if the emphasis is on the fact that MM has gone on an airplane (good riddance) or that he is coming back...
Chayale on the other hand was very relieved to hear that the Arensteins had arrived in SA.

Tuesday, March 8

I should also add that DLD and MMA are so relaxed and at home in sharon's waiting room (cos they visit so often) they behave as if they are visiting their favourite aunt....running up and down and around all the corridors....when we were there DLD lay on a chair and rested her feet on the wall with the map ( maybe that's why michelle brought out the balloons) then when they got to sharon's room she runs straight to the lolly jar and helps herself....of course she gave one to mma leaving me with the dilemma of whether to praise her kindness or point out her need to get permission from sharon...then she proceeds to remove her socks and shoes and lie down on the examination table.....make yourself at home why don't you...........well next time we had to go with DLR and raizel I decided to prepare for the onslaught and give dld a few tips on how to behave nicely.....well of course she still ran around constantly pointing out that she is a much faster runner than mma who follows her up and down the corridors like a happy adoring puppy feeling so blessed just to be in her company.....then we get invited into aunty sharon's room and dld runs straight up to sharon and gives her a kiss and hug followed immediately by "can I please have a lolly?" one thing's for sure ,she is a very fast learner!
I survived the night.....but maybe only because I fell asleep with simi and I was totally exhausted.....anyway, about the story with DLD at dr. sharon's.........when michelle, the secretary blew up the first balloon she cautiously made it small ( maybe to preserve waiting room decorum)when she held it out DLD quickly said "that's menachem mendel's" of course I praised her 'kindness'....then while michelle blew up the next one Iasked her what she was going to say to michelle to which she replied "I want a bigger one " and of course that's what she got.....hoping to hear from our family in singapore....all my love to all the jeddybloggers wherever you are

More from the Dickshteins...

A couple more things from my girls...
1. On Friday, DL wanted to help me peel potatoes, but I told her that I don't want her to because I don't want her to hurt herself. She began marching to the drawer, with the intention of getting out a peeler, so I asked her, "Are you listening to mummy or are you doing your own thing?" Her answer, "I'm doing my own thing!" Brutal honesty...
2. Mum had to take DLD and MMA to Dr Sharon's the other day because someone had an appointment, and she was babysitting. DL feels totally at home at Dr Sharon's. The secretary blew up a balloon, and gave it to DL, who gave it to MM. Mum thought that she was being so kind (which she tends not to be with MM). The secretary started blowing up another one, so Mum prompted DL and said, "What do you say?", to which DL said, "I want a bigger one!"
(This is how I remember hearing the story, but if there are corrections from those present, please comment to the post, and I will correct the story.)
3. Chayale has settled very nicely in Prep, and is enjoying reading and writing. She has finished her 2nd Hebrew reader and likes identifying and writing letters. On Friday, when she was home sick, she wrote the Arensteins a goodbye letter. She told me what she wanted to write, and then she patiently copied it out onto pretty stationery. I was very impressed...
If you can't decipher her writing, it reads,
Dear Baila and Ari and Menachem Mendel
I wish you could stay here forever and ever.
Love Chayale Dickshtein

Well, I think she summed up most of our thoughts in her letter...

BTW, why am I the only one posting?

Fomo fun...

So yesterday I had a dr's appointment with Dr Kliman. DLD was with me, and when we went in to his office, she went straight for the display of business cards he has on his desk. I told her that she could take ONE, and that's it. So she proptly said to me "Well now I have 2, because one and another one is 2". (She had taken one last time, and so yes, now she had two.)
Point #1: She remembered that she had the one from last time
Point #2: I love that she could add (there was a kid in my class last year who couldn't count to 8!).

On that note, she is really settling into Kinder nicely. She sings songs from Kinder all day, and davens all the time! She is such a cheeky monkey though... and she's entirely not sad about the fact that Nakem Menel is going - I think she's quite relieved, because as she told me, "He pulls my hair". He is probably stroking it like he does to my shaitel, very gently, but it's all a matter of perspective. Boy will we all miss that kid... :-(.

While I'm talking about DLD, I might add that lately she also has a baby in her tummy, which from time to time, I need to feel. Also, because she has a baby in her tummy, she finds it hard to bend down and pick things up from the floor. Rough life...

Also, one day when I was walking back from taking Chayale to school (DLD was having a day off from Kinder), I asked her if I could eat her leg, "No", her ear - "No", her arm - "No", etc. "So what can I eat?" "You can eat breakfast!!" said the smarty pants!

You've gotta love some healthy competition. Now the question is, who will prevail, Jedblog or Jedblog?

Tuesday, March 1

G'morning all...

I have about 5 minutes to share with you some of my thoughts...
Well, that was cut down to about 1 minute because Chayale just woke up with a sore throat... Shame :-(...
Just very quickly, for those of you who haven't heard this story, here it is...
2 Fridays ago, I was getting ready for Shabbos, and I turned around to put the peels from the potatoes and sweet potatoes in the bin, and when I turned back around, Devorah Leah was holding a Victorinox knife in her little hand. After my initial yell of "Put that thing back where it came from or so help you" (not those words, but you get the gist), we had a very important discussion about the fact that knives are VERY dangerous, and we NEVER touch a knife, unless Mummy says it is a safe one, etc. We finished this very important discussion, and I began chopping the potatoes and sweet potatoes. Meanwhile, Devorah Leah starts marching out of the kitchen, so I asked her where she was going. She answered, "I'm going to think about it...".
And she went and sat on her bed for about 7 minutes - no joke - 'thinking about it'...

Anyway, I better go back to tending to poor Chayale. She's feeling rather miserable...
